Its Not What You Eat But How Much

By R. Jager People who want to lose weight usually make two changes in an attempt to achieve this goal. They try to consume less food, and at the same time switch from so-called “bad” food to “good” food. “Burgers and Fries” are swapped for “Lettuce and Lentils” in an attempt to get the weight down. Lifestyle changes of this magnitude will of course have to made to maintain long term weight loss, but in the initial stages, this “double change” approach may not be the best way to proceed. The main problem for people in the affluent Western World, where food is available in such abundance, is not so much one of type as amount. The sheer volume of food we consume, both “good” an “bad” is the first problem that needs to be dealt with. Yes we do eat the wrong foods, but I am convinced that the amount of food has to be changed before type. The reason for this is that in spite of the “bad press” fat and sugar receive, they are very effective at satisfying hunger and supplying energy. If you switch from “Burgers and Fries” to “Lettuce and Lentils” and reduce the amount of food you eat at the same time, you are going to feel mighty hungry. It is therefore a better approach to reduce the amount of food consumed while sticking more or less to what you are used to eating. It is possible to lose significant amounts of weight this way and you will be more comfortable doing it. When the habit of eating less becomes ingrained the change to foods that will help you maintain weight loss can begin. This will mean seeking out and experimenting with foods that deliver similar hunger satisfaction and energy to the “bad” food that you used to consume. This becomes necessary when food intake is reduced because the energy available is reduced by the reduction in volume. Unless you make these changes the drop in energy levels will result in tiredness and irritability. Making changes to your diet in this gradual way allows you to investigate which foods satisfy your hunger and energy requirements best. Low G.I. is an obvious way to go, but so are nuts, raw vegetables and dried fruits. The latter are excellent for supplying energy because of their slow-release, long-grain fructose sugar. Their effects last much longer than the short grained processed sugars of candy bars and the like. Experimenting with food will enable you to adjust your diet to what is best for you, rather than impose a “one-size-fits-all” regime upon yourself. This in turn, will result in the lifestyle changes that you need to put in place to to secure your permanent weight loss. We also need to keep in mind that there are no “bad” foods as such, it is the amount in which they are consumed that makes them “bad”. We need fat and sugar in our diet so leave room for the occasional indulgence, your body and psyche need it. As I said earlier, it is amount more than type that causes our problems. Rob. Jager is the founder and director of the HungerMaster Weight Management Program. How To Find “Mr. X”, And When To Let Him Start Selling For You

By Craig Garber Over the last couple of days we’ve been talking about something few people stop and take the time to consider, BEFORE they go ahead and start writing their sales copy — and that is — whose “voice” your sales copy should be written in. Remember, when thinking this through, what’s key here, is credibility, and believability. You want to ask yourself, “Which “character” will be most credible and believable, to my prospects?” And oftentimes, this means, which character can you “make” most credibile and believable to your prosptcts. Along those lines, another “voice” you can write in, is what I call, the “3rd Party Plus” voice. And who qualifies to be your “3rd Party Plus” voice? Well… bluntly… Anyone Who Will Make Your Pitch Work! For example, I recently wrote a pitch for a real estate / financial services-related product — and one letter came from a real estate lawyer, the other from an investor. When I pitched a service to CPA’s a while ago, guess where that letter came from? A CPA of course (a CPA is like a Chartered Accountant, in case you live outside America). How about medical or health-related pitches? Consider using a doctor… a pharmacist… or a cured patient — that sounds good to me. In certain cases, even a “friend” or client can make your pitch, especially if you’ve got some kind of whacky or unique story about how you came up with your product or service. You can even “invent” secret “clandestine” characters, like… “Mr.(or Mrs.) X” for example… or… “Former Convicted Felon — prisoner # 12345″. The choices are endless — it all depends on who you’re writing to and what you’re selling, that ultimately determines the “best” way to go here. Remember, you can write “from” anyone you want, so long as 3 things are true: Your sales pitch is true. Make sure you’ve got “someone” behind those characters willing to back their “writing” up. Your sales copy is believable. And lastly, your “voice” must have credibility — don’t advertise your new “shortcuts to real estate investing success” program, and have the person writing your sales copy, be a 17-year old surfer dude from Encino, California. Make sense? If you want to know how to consistently attract a steady stream of fresh new prospects, who are pre-qualified, eager, and excited about buying from you, then Craig Garber — recognized by his peers as America’s Top Direct-Response Copywriter — can show you exactly how to do this, step-by-step. A Look At Fertility Herbs

By Lee Dobbins Today the alternative approaches to treating fertility have taken a step back from the mechanics of fertilization and instead are looking at addressing the overall state of the body. Today there are fertility herbs around which provide an excellent way of strengthening the organ systems as well as improving their function without harmful side effects. Once the organs have begun to work well it is useful to apply herbs which increase a bodys ability to utilize estrogen which enhances the production of eggs in the ovary. So not only will a womans body be in better shape for fertilization but it will also be well prepared for the actual pregnancy. In fact herbs which are recommended for fertility purposes are also useful during the actual pregnancy itself. The following herbs listed below should be either taken as a water based infusion or as a strong tea. For preparing an infusion you will need to fill a clean wide mouthed jar a third full with dried herbs and then fill the jar up to the top with boiling water, place on the cap and then let the herbs seep in the water for no less than 4 hours. After the 4 hours strain and drink a cup of this per day. Refrigerate what you have not used and do not reheat or allow the infusion to boil. Red Clover Blossoms and Leaves This supplies calcium, protein, B Vitamins to the body as well as clearing toxins from the blood. The alkalinizing effect will lengthen the survival time of sperm. However you should not use this before or after surgery as its blood thinning properties will impair the clotting of your blood. Nettle Leaf This is high in iron and calcium and is good for treating anemia as it strengthens the kidneys as well as building blood and enriches and thickens the uterine lining. This enables implantation of the fertilized egg to occur. However people who either suffer from high blood pressure or fibroids should not use this herb. Raspberry Leaf This will strengthen the reproductive organs as well as supporting a persons digestive system. It contains a wide array of vitamins and minerals. It is important that you rotate the use of these 3 herbs and drink one cup of infusion per day (so Monday, Raspberry Leaf, Tuesday Nettle Leaf, Wednesday Red Clover Leaf and Blossoms and so on). After using these for about 3-6 months (all depending on the condition of your body in the beginning) your body should then be ready for the 2nd phase. However it is important that the following herbs are NOT used during the pregnancy itself as they can stimulate uterine contractions. Add one of these to your regime of infusions and if you are not getting the required results within a few months then try another. Normally these herbs can be taken in the form of a tincture by just putting drops into a little water and then drinking. Dong Quai (Tang Kwei) Root This is a Chinese herb which is commonly used to help build up the female system and enhance the utilization of estrogen. It is important that you take 20-30 drops of this tincture three times a day. False Unicorn Root As this is an endangered species it should only be used when absolutely necessary. This has been used for a long time as a fertility herb and opens up the estrogen receptor sites in the ovaries. You should have 10 drops of this in water each morning. So when next considering fertility herbs than look no further than the ones whose details have been provided above. Greenhouses, Hot Beds and Cold Frames - Assess Your Needs

By Paul Wonning As winter sets in it is a good time for the gardener to assess the needs for the next gardening season. Every gardener needs plants, lots of them. Buying plants can be very expensive, and the choices are limited to whatever the retailer you buy from elects to sell. Propagating plants yourself not only can save you money, but vastly expand the different varieties and types of plants you can plant in your garden. Vegetable gardeners can benefit from the thousands of different seed types available. Flower gardeners have the same benefit. There are thousands upon thousands of different types of seeds available to the home gardener. Plant propagation structures range from the simple plastic domes placed in the garden to hasten the germination of seeds planted early to elaborate greenhouses with climate control and irrigation systems. You need to assess your needs before you can decide what to purchase to start plants for your garden. A simple cold frame may be suitable for your needs. Seeds can be started indoors in a south facing window, transplanted into the cold frame when they are larger. A hot bed is simply a cold frame with electric heat cables installed to provide bottom heat for early started seeds and to provide heat to small seedlings on cold night. One, or both of these propagation tools may be sufficient for your needs. Both may also be used to root cuttings of shrubs and perennials later in the season. A greenhouse may be the choice if you grow a lot of plants over a long season. A greenhouse is much easier to control the climate than a cold frame or hot bed. Water hydrants may be installed inside, as well as heating systems to grow plants during the long cold winter months. There are many types of greenhouses from which to choose. Some are called lean to greenhouses, which attach to your home or other building. Free standing greenhouses are just that, free standing. They are usually the most expensive to build and maintain. Pit greenhouses are built over a pit, walkways below ground level. The plants are usually grown right in the earth, or on ground level benches in this type of structure. These are usually the cheapest to heat. Use the winter months to assess your plant propagating needs and decide what type of plant propagating devices you need. Now is the time to plan and build, so when spring approaches you have your seed starting facility ready to plant. 2006 Paul Wonning is the owner of Gardens and Nature.com a web site about gardening, hiking and other nature related topics. How To Avoid The Answers

By Ray Rheault The answer “There is no question” is an absolute kick in the teeth to us “seekers of truth”. In honesty, I am unwilling to let go of the self-perception that I am a “spiritual person” or even “seeking god”. Why? Because it makes me feel better about myself. Is this a valid reason? Truly, as a free and infinitely adaptable consciousness, do I have any legitimate reason to need to feel better about myself? How much better does it get? So why do I hold onto to these labels? Why do I feel they are necessary to my existence? Because if I continue to hold onto them, I never have to deal with that brick wall that is “there is no question.” That’s it…when it boils down to it, all my beliefs, fears, judgments, and reactions are based on this avoidance. I want those labels…they are “important”. But really, all a label has ever done is describe something. If an infinite range of perception is available, then a label is simply trapping us in the perception of its creator, not our own. The point is that any thing could be perceived in any way, to define that thing is to attempt to control change. We attempt to control our surroundings, our language, our community, our thoughts, our memories, our belief system, and even our own free will. All this simply to avoid an answer. So why do I try to control reality? Because it is a distraction. If I am busy participating in the “outside world”, I continue to hold onto the perception that I am separate from reality. Every single belief or fear that I have exists for the simple reason that I do not want to let them go. Ultimately, the only reason that I believe I am separate from reality is because I choose to believe it. If all perceptions are open to us, why then is it so hard to see this one? What is it about Unity that makes us run back to Duality? Responsibility. Admitting that all of reality is contained in a single “consciousness”(I have to use a word here even though it doesn’t really apply to an indescribable thing. This is the unfortunate limitation of language) is simple…in fact, we whole-heartedly enjoy believing in “God” because if there was a such thing as “God” then It would be responsible for how things are going. But to admit that all of reality exists only in your consciousness means that you can no longer pass the buck. Basically it means that the things I hold onto are made real by my attention to them. It is very hard to admit that everything that exists, exists because God wants it to. It’s harder when You are God. And Boom! Just like that the thoughts come whirling in…at the forefront of the charge is Judgement. “But there are horrible things and people in the world, I would never do those things.” –> Yes, I would if I were in the right circumstances and particular frame of mind. Basically if I was that person, that is exactly what I would do. Life is a long and infinitely complex journey of choice after choice after choice….each moment of your reality is a turning point. If perception is the map, and an infinite amount of perceptions exist, then it is our choices that decide where our journey takes us. Boom! More atrocities turn up…murder, rape, war, disease, starvation! “I would never do these things!” –> Once again, yes I probably would. But before casting judgement on these things, remember Duality. Horrible is the opposite of Wonderful…without one, there would be no other. This is truly hard to admit, but everything is happening so that I can experience. Not experience “something” in particular…but to experience period. Without duality there is no experience. There is simple Unity. So how do I avoid the answer? Simple…stay clear of these 3 habits. Relaxing Bein in The Moment Paying Attention To be honest, these 3 things actually mean the same thing. One cannot be done without the other 2. Example : Relaxing implies letting go of control. This leads to letting go of thought. Without thought we have unbiased experience. This experience is not distracted by the workings of the mind because you are relaxed…therefore you are paying attention. In paying attention you abandon Time…leading you to The Moment. Why ask “Why?” Because the questions very existence implies I do not know the answer. If you want to avoid the Answer…just keep asking questions. For every question you create, a justifiable reason to escape responsibility is born. The author is. No label or decriptions apply, to do so would be another example of willing self-limitation. Why be one thing when you are already everything? forgetfulgod.blogspot.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Ray_Rheault http://EzineArticles.com/?How-To-Avoid-The-Answers&id=356117 phentermine from union pharmacy phentermine on line pharmacy cheap phentermine online prescription phentermine 37.5

Secured Loans: By Far The Most Cost Effective Means Of Borrowing Money

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Lucy_Grace]Lucy Grace Secured loans may not be the most frequently taken loans, but they are by far the most cost effective means of borrowing money. It remains the endeavour of every borrower to pay as less interest as possible for a loan. There is probably no other means of borrowing that can compete with secured loans regarding low interest rate. There is genuine reason why secured loans come with low interest rate. The loan market is quite competitive now. The close competition exist d among the lender made them bound to charge as less interest as possible so that they can grab more customers then others. But at the same time they need an assurance that the loaned amount will be repaid. Since secured loans are backed by collateral, the lenders get strong assurance of money recovery. It is because of this reason they offer [ http://www.uk-direct-loans.co.uk/securedloans.htmltarget=_blank] secured loans at low rate . Not only that, the lenders also kept the terms of the loan in favour of the borrower. With low interest and favourable terms it becomes quite easy for the borrowers to keep track of the loan and pass up the risk involved in secured loans. In spite of all these benefits, secured loans are not top most means of borrowing money in UK. The reason behind it is that secured loans accessible to the homeowners only. Even those homeowners who do not have equity available in their home cannot take secured loans. This means that secured loans are meant for the lucky few. The terms of secured loans really matters for a borrower. That is why it is recommendable to make enough research before you accept any secured loan offer. Leaving Home

By Hubert Crowell I left home in stages, it started shortly after we moved from Lakeland, Florida back to our hometown of Providence, Kentucky. I had just turned 15 and felt very confident. It was summer and school was out so I decided to visit my older sister who lived in Athens, Tennessee. Mom gave me bus fare, but I decided to save the money and hitch hike to West Tennessee. I was really proud of myself, I made better time hitch hiking than the bus would have taken. I had already figured out that there was an art to catching a ride. First I had to look neat and clean, avoid being dropped off in cities or other places that it would be hard to catch a ride. I was also friendly and tried to get to know the people that I rode with. One fellow that I caught a ride with would press the accelerator hard then let up on it repeatedly until I thought I would go crazy. Most were just nice and willing to help with a ride. I had very little if any trouble. People say that it is a lot more dangerous now days than it was in the 50’s. I stayed a few weeks and then hitch hiked back home. The second time I left home had nothing to do with me. It was early fall and my cousin Bobbie and I were standing in the center of town talking when he starting talking about running away. I found out later that he had just broken up with his girl friend and was upset. I did not try to talk him out of it, I just said sounds like fun to me, lets go. I think he had a few dollars in his pocket and I had some change. We started south down US 41 and decided to go through Alabama and onto Florida, I knew that if we made it to Lakeland that I could get my old job back in the Bowling Alley. We got a ride through Nashville, Tennessee, but were not so lucky in Birmingham, Alabama. The ride let us out right in the middle of town. Bad mistake, we had to walk south to the edge of town before we could catch another ride. In Montgomery it was even worse, we were let out on the north side of town and had to walk all the way to the south side before catching another ride. That night we crossed the Florida line and ended just north of Tallahassee. An early cold front had pushed south and we were feeling it. We found a lot full of school busses and all the doors were left open. We picked one and tried to sleep but it was too cold. Back out on the highway there was no traffic and we tried again to hobo sleep. This is where you lay down head to head and use each other shoulder for a pillow. After about thirty minutes we gave up again and started walking. We found an old abandoned house and it had a fireplace. We managed to build a fire and survived the night. The next day Bobbie said that he had enough and wanted to go home. We started hitch hiking back north and had better luck with the cities. One trucker picked us up and Bobbie was setting in the middle, when the driver placed his hand on Bobbie’s leg. Well that did it, we were out of that truck in nothing flat, was that ever freaky. Back in Nashville our luck turned sour again and we were stuck in the middle of town again. We went into a dinner and spent the last of our money, except for a dime that Bobbie used to call home. Our dads drove down that night and picked us up. After my close calls with owning a car and picking fights with my younger sister, I began to feel that I needed to get away. School was not going well and it did not look like I would finish the ninth grade on my second attempt. I was 16 and a half and the weather was starting to warm so I made some arrangements with one of Bobbie’s class mates who was going on a senior field trip the next day to Paducah, Kentucky. The plan was that I would meet them about two miles out of town on the road to Princeton. I had to be careful because that was close to were my aunt and uncle lived and I knew that they would be up and out early. That night I left a note on my pillow in the basement where I slept. Mom and dad slept in the trailer parked just outside my window. I pack up an old suitcase and walked out the country road to a field and spent the night. The next morning I cleaned up in a ditch that ran through the field and got upon the road to look for my ride. Here they come speeding like crazy, stopped and told me to jump in quick and get down in the back floorboard. I no sooner got down when the teacher pulled up along side and demanded to know why they had passed him and speed off. I could see him but fortunately he did not look down. After some lame brain explanation he pulled off again and they eased back to the back of the line of cars. Sluggo, was the nickname of the one giving me the ride and he gave me a nickel and told me to keep it to remember the trip by. I did keep it until I got out of the service. Sluggo came to visit us in Georgia once after I was married, he was into insurance then and doing well. We had a good visit and talked a lot about that day I left home. I got out in Paducah and hitch hiked across the Mississippi River to Missouri, and took US 61 north toward St. Louis. I was not sure where I was going, but for some crazy reason Salt Lake City sounded good to me. Some boys picked me up and they seemed a little too wild for me so I just kept quite and looked for a chance to get out. After about fifty miles the highway patrol stopped us and questioned the boys at length, we all had to get out. They were not speeding and I don’t know what it was all about. They let me out in the middle of St. Louis and I was so glad to be rid of them I did not protest about being stranded in the middle of town. I found a YMCA and rented a room for the night. I read my bible and prayed that night. The next morning I caught the bus to the edge of St. Louis and started hitch hiking again. After a couple of short rides a man picked me up that was heading to Alaska. We talked about me riding along with him, but I understood that one needed at least a hundred dollars in order to cross the Canadian border so we parted company around Kansas City. Later in the day I caught a ride with the Youngs, I cannot recall their first names, The husband was half blood Indian and his wife was full-blooded Indian. They both were Christians and had a habit of picking up young boys and helping them out. They usually ended up talking the young men into joining the armed services and then would loose touch with them. I could understand why as they would move around so much that the mail could not keep up with them. I also loss touch after a couple of years. We put our money together and feed the gas tank until we reached Wyoming. The first night we spent the night in a road side park and they read their bible and prayed before turning in. The Youngs were heading to Portland Oregon where he had a job waiting for him on a farm just west of the city. We got a job on a ranch in Montana digging irrigation ditches. The digging was not too bad as the soil was sandy. A week later we took our pay and headed out again. We would stop in small towns and split up looking for work. One nice lady let me clean her windows for her and then invited me to stay for dinner. I had my first taste of Elk. In Idaho we found work on a potato farm, the potatoes were rotting in the storage sheds and had to be moved quickly, I recall working and shoveling rotten potatoes for fourteen hours straight. At the end of the week, the owner informed us that he would be holding back our pay for one week in order for taxes and processing. Well that would not work for us so we settled for about half pay in order to get some cash to travel on. That got us to Portland and the job along the Columbia river. I helped some loading hay and then found a job at a blowing alley in Portland. During the month or so that I lived with the Youngs, I found an old radio that had all the tubes removed, after switching them around I finely got it to working and we had a little entrainment. The Columbia river flooded and the water was up into the hay field. I told the Youngs about the time on the Ohio river that my dad took us across to an island that had been covered with water and we caught the carp with our hands in the mud where they were trapped. We had four large sacks of carp and brought them back to a pond and cleaned and froze a large number. We had carp for dinner for several months. The next day I went down to the flood waters and sure enough there was carp feeding in the flooded hay. I caught a nice large one by putting one hand in the mouth and grabbing the tail with the other hand. We had a good meal on the carp that night. Some people don’t like carp because they are a mud fish and have a sightly, muddy taste along with plenty of bones, but I enjoyed it and so did the Youngs. I wrote mom and dad a letter, telling them that I was all right and let them know where I was. The Youngs had been talking up the army and about enlisting, and I was thinking that I needed a little time to grow some with a little supervision. I was still 16 and even though I had only a few months to wait til my 17th birthday, I thought it would be an easer thing to keep up with one year instead of a month change. So I lie about my age a whole year. I visited the enlistment office and obtained the papers for a 17-year-old to join. I mailed the papers to dad to be signed, explaining my desire to join the army. Dad had been in the army during WWII and I knew that he would understand. What he really thought was that he had rather have me in the army that running around the country side. Mom later regretted signing the papers and almost turned me in, but dad talked her out of it. With the signed papers showing I was 17 instead of 16, I threw away my driver’s license and joined the army in Portland Oregon on May 26, 1958 two months before my 17th birthday. Homemade Cookies and Their T’s

By Trinh Lieu Before you say that there is not a single T in homemade cookies, Id better tell you that the Ts stand for types and texture. They are the two prominent features in our favorite sweet. One often can not be without the other. We classify cookies based on how we get them ready for the oven. 1. Drop Cookies - If you have ever made chocolate chip, peanut butter, or oatmeal cookies, you undoubtedly use the dropping method. Any kitchen utensils such as tablespoons or ice cream scoops can be used to portion the dough. The trick is to make these portions relatively equal in size so that they bake uniformly. A variation of this technique is rolling cookie dough into balls. Drop cookies tend to have a soft and chewy texture. 2. Icebox or Refrigerated Cookies - I suspect that this type of cookies was invented when someone who did not have time to bake right after preparing the dough. Instead, she shaped it into logs or rectangles and refrigerated it. When she had time later, she sliced the chilled dough into individual pieces and baked them as needed. Many elegant homemade cookies such as pinwheel and checkerboard are of this type. It allows a busy home baker an opportunity to show off her creativity. These cookies usually have a crisp texture. 3. Cut-Out or Rolled Cookies - Dough for this type of cookies needs to be firm. To minimize scrap, start cutting cookies from the edge of the dough, working inward as close to one another as possible. Scrap can be re-rolled but tends to yield tough cookies. Cut-out cookies are often baked on parchment lined or ungreased cookie sheets to keep the dough from spreading and loosing its shape. An alternative is to hand-shaped the dough into spheres, crescents, or other traditional shapes. 4. Bar or Sheet Cookies - It takes almost no time at all to transfer cookie dough from a mixing bowl to a baking pan. This is the best method for a busy cookie lover. 5. Pressed or Spritz or Bagged Cookies - The right flour and proper proportion of ingredients are prerequisite for success in baking this type of cookies. The dough should be soft enough so that it can be easily forced through a pastry tip or cookie press. Using eggs as the only liquid will help cookies retain their small, distinct and decorated shape. 6. Wafer Cookies - Being extremely thin and delicate is a distinguishing trait of these cookies. They are made from a batter that you pour or spread directly onto a baking sheet. The cookies need to be molded immediately into shapes after coming out of the oven. Generally, cookie dough with a relatively high proportion of fat, granulated sugar, and eggs would promote spreading and chewiness. High fat and sugar but low in eggs (liquid) tend to result in crispness. The opposite condition will add softness to your homemade cookies. Reference SARAH R. Baby Baptism: Is It Really Necessary?

By Christine Bettridge Baby baptism is probably one of the most widely misunderstood rituals in the Christian (and many other) faiths. Almost all Christian churches practice Baptism in some form or another. Baptism comes from a Greek word baptizo which loosely translated means to dip, a washing or immersion. However baptism for babies is not a practice that was performed by the churches in the first century. According to various chapters in the New Testament as you come into faith with Christ then the next few steps would be confession and then baptism. The process of baptism symbolizes the dying, burial and rising of Christ. Through baptism the symbolism of these acts are reenacted. Baptism is done for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38), it washes away our sins (Acts 22:16). We are baptized so that will God will resurrect us from death (Colossians 2:12, Romans 6:3-6). So when should someone be baptized? In order to answer this question properly we will need to refer to the scriptures. The Bible clearly tells us that children are considered to be pure in the eyes of the Lord. The scriptures teach us that in order to enter God’s kingdom we need to become more like children and open our hearts (Matthew 18:3, Mark 10:15). The baby baptism advocates interpret passages such as Psalm 51:5 as saying that we are born sinners. However with proper interpretation would say that we are just born into a sinful world. A close look at a couple of passages tells us that children do not have sin as a result being born and that sin is a result of lust and therefore turns into sin. See Ezekiel 18: 20; James 1:14-15. As children grow older they are filled with secular knowledge and through this process their hearts become hardened. This is when the blood of Christ is needed. Being able to recite the word of God is very different to comprehending it properly. Whilst young children might mean well when they ask if they are ready to be baptized they do not know any better. The choice to become a Christian is one of the gravest and most serious decisions you can make; is your child really ready for that kind of commitment? So who are the real candidates for baptism? Anybody who is prepared to hear the word of God confess their sins, and ready to live a life committed to Christ can be baptized. Another place to learn who can be baptized is searching through the book of Acts. It is known as the book of conversions. The reason why is it shows how several people were told how to be saved and become a member of the church. Children should be introduced to the word of God at the earliest possible stage in their lives. Parents will need to take care to strike a balance between guiding their child and supporting the child’s spiritual development. Any commitment they make to Christ is their own and should be something which they would have independently chosen for themselves. It’s common for parents to push their children to agree with their religious beliefs. However well-intentioned it is sad because in the end this undermines the child’s spiritual development. To baptize someone who is not ready is to do them a grave disservice. By waiting until they are ready to really understand the commitment they are agreeing to; the ritual becomes more meaningful for everyone involved, thus also approved of by God.
